The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, Vepa Hajiyev, speaking on behalf of the Group of Friends of Neutrality in the Interests of Peace, Security and Sustainable Development, declared the need for more active involvement of women in conflict prevention, mediation and peacebuilding.

The statement was made on Wednesday at the High-Level Forum on the Implementation of the Program of Action in the Culture of Peace held at the UN headquarters in New York on the theme "Women's Leadership in the Promotion of a Culture of Peace".

"What a woman should consider is the world of beneficiaries. "Women act as mediators, negotiators, community leaders, diplomats, teachers, peacemakers and decision-makers," says the text of the statement published on the website of the representation of Turkmenistan at the UN.

According to the Turkmen side, the participation of women strengthens the legitimacy of peace processes and brings the views necessary to eliminate the root causes of instability.

The group of friends of neutrality proposed a number of practical steps: to ensure the full representation of women in preventive diplomacy and peace negotiations from the earliest stages, to provide greater support to women mediators and the organizations I lead, and to more actively integrate women's leadership in work on conflict prevention at the local level.

The role of education is especially emphasized - as noted in the application, the culture of peace is born before the beginning of negotiations, in families, schools and communities, through respect, tolerance and rejection of violence.

In the speech, the relationship between the culture of peace and the principles of neutrality was also noted. As Hajiyev emphasized, neutrality does not mean staying away from the world - it means creating a space for dialogue where confrontation prevails, and for trust where it has been lost.

"In an increasingly divided world, we need more spaces where states can meet without confrontation... and women can participate not on the periphery of peace processes, but in the very center," said the post-president of Turkmenistan.
