Gulyalek Muhammetberdyeva, Head of the International Press and Information Department of the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH), took part in the 35th meeting of the Council of Heads of State News Agencies of the CIS.

In her address, she stated that tourism in Turkmenistan has been a priority area of state policy in recent years, reports kabar.kg.

"In recent years, tourism has been one of the priority areas of state policy, and funds are being invested in it. Support is provided at the state level to private companies operating in this sector," noted G. Muhammetberdyeva.

A distinct area, according to her, is desert tourism, which attracts travelers interested in extreme journeys and unusual natural routes.

Attention was also focused on the "Awaza" National Tourist Zone, which has been actively developing since 2008, with the addition of new hotels and infrastructure facilities. Meetings of the CIS Council of Heads of State and a number of cultural events are scheduled to be held in Awaza this October.

G. Muhammetberdyeva highlighted Turkmenistan's rich historical heritage. Among the most significant sites mentioned were ancient Merv, Nisa, and Kunya-Urgench, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Participants were shown a video showcasing Turkmenistan's tourism potential, including historical monuments, desert landscapes, the "Awaza" National Tourist Zone, and the country's capital, the source notes.
