Matches for Matchday 16 of the Turkmenistan Higher League football championship have concluded. The main talking point in the standings is a change of leader within the chasing pack: “Altyn Asyr” overtook “Ahal” to move up to second place.

This shake-up in the standings was triggered by the outcome of the head-to-head match between “Ahal” and the reigning champions. In the round's marquee fixture, “Arkadag” defeated “Ahal” 2–1 on home turf. The league's top scorer, Didar Durdyev, found the net as early as the 4th minute, and Ahmet Atayev doubled the lead in the 8th minute. Yolmammet Karajayev narrowed the deficit for “Ahal” in the 23rd minute, but the visitors were unable to claw back both goals.

While “Ahal” was trailing the league leader, “Altyn Asyr” secured an away victory and capitalized on its rival's slip-up. In the match against “Kopetdag”, the capital-based team conceded first: Arslan Saparov opened the scoring in the 19th minute. However, “Altyn Asyr” pulled a goal back before the break, with Rovshengeldi Halmammedov scoring in stoppage time (45+1 minute). The decisive moment came in the second half: in the 68th minute, Bayramgeldi Gulmayev turned the ball into his own net, handing the visitors a 2–1 victory.

As a result of these two matches, “Altyn Asyr” reached 35 points and moved into second place, overtaking “Ahal”, which remained at 33 points.

The other matches of the round also offered plenty of drama. “Ashgabat” defeated “Shagadam” 1–0 on home turf, with Merdan Muhadov scoring the lone goal in the 59th minute.

“Nebitchi” defeated “Merv” in an away match. Akmammet Metdayev scored the game's only goal in stoppage time at the end of the first half—in the 45+1st minute.

As for the league leader, “Arkadag” has not only maintained but also extended its lead at the top of the standings. The victory over “Ahal” marked the team's 16th win in 16 matches; the champions continue their confident run, remaining unbeaten and without a single draw.
