A friendly match between the Russian and Iranian national football teams will take place on September 29 in Kazan, the Russian Football Union press service announced.

In the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rankings, the Iranian national team is ranked 22nd, while Russia is ranked 35th. The Iranians participated in the World Cup this summer but failed to advance to the tournament's playoffs.

The Russian and Iranian national teams have met four times, all friendly matches. Russia has only once defeated Iran, in October 2025 in Volgograd (2-1). Iran has one victory, and the other two matches ended in draws.
