During a meeting with Benelux Union Secretary General Ariadna Petridis at the organization's headquarters in Brussels, Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, proposed exploring the possibility of mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports from Turkmenistan and the Benelux countries. This was reported by the press service of the Turkmen Embassy.

During the meeting, it was noted that the expansion of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union, the growth in the number of dialogue formats, political consultations, and expert meetings have led to an increase in the number of mutual visits and official contacts. According to Palvanov, visa waivers for diplomatic passport holders could become a practical mechanism for supporting this dynamic, as well as facilitating the organization of high-level visits and strengthening institutional interaction.

The Secretary General of the Benelux Union provided information on the organization's current practices and procedures in this area and expressed her willingness to facilitate further dialogue on this issue within the secretariat's remit.

The parties also discussed the possibility of exchanging experiences between Benelux and Central Asian countries in the area of regional cooperation. The Turkmen side expressed interest in Benelux's long-standing experience in matters of coordination between states and the functioning of permanent regional mechanisms. Petridis praised the initiative, noting that cooperation between Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg today covers areas such as security, energy, climate, sustainable development, and economic cooperation.

In addition, Ambassador Palvanov announced preparations for a major international equestrian event, which will take place from September 4 to 6, 2026 at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre in Kronenberg (Netherlands), and invited representatives of the General Secretariat of the Benelux Union to participate.
