An international research internship focused on the application of artificial intelligence, methane emission reduction, and the integration of renewable energy sources is taking place at Clausthal University of Technology (Germany). The program is organized by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and runs from July 25 to August 16, 2026.

Representatives from Turkmenistan are participating in the internship, including an official from the country’s Ministry of Energy, faculty and researchers from the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan and the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International Oil and Gas University, as well as representatives from the Natural Gas Research Institute and the State Concern "Turkmengaz."

The primary objective of the trip is to study international experience in the application of innovative digital technologies—including artificial intelligence and machine learning—within industrial processes and energy systems, as well as to enhance the efficiency of renewable energy sources and ensure environmental sustainability.

Currently, Turkmen specialists are familiarizing themselves with the fundamental principles of artificial intelligence, methods for detecting deviations and anomalies, working with neural networks, and practical approaches to implementing AI in industrial production—working alongside German professors and researchers at Clausthal University.

In the coming days, Turkmen specialists will participate in joint research at the university’s research centers, focusing on areas such as well integrity, deep drilling, and the modeling of photovoltaic systems. Field visits to major production facilities are also planned, including a sour gas processing plant and solar and wind power generation stations based on renewable energy sources.

The participation of representatives from Turkmenistan in the internship is viewed as a contribution to the country’s state policy on developing a "green economy," digital technologies driven by science and innovation, and alternative energy. The visit aims to foster international scientific cooperation and facilitate the implementation of modern scientific solutions in production.
