Mergen Orazov, coach of the “Arkadag” football club, stated at a press conference that the team is ready for the upcoming match against India's “Goa” in the tournament's preliminary round.
"The preparation went well; as you know, it took place here in Turkmenistan. The lads are in good match rhythm and physical shape, so we believe we are ready for this game," said Orazov, noting that the ongoing national championship is benefiting the team by keeping the players match-fit.
Orazov stated that the club intends to compete for a spot in the AFC Champions League 2 group stage. "We hope to win tomorrow's match and subsequently advance from the group in the Champions League 2. Our club always strives to compete in top-tier tournaments and prepares accordingly; therefore, we want to participate in the Champions League and are hoping for a positive result in this game," he emphasized.

Discussing the revamped Goa squad—which features a new coaching staff and new foreign players—the “Arkadag” head coach noted that the team is focusing primarily on its own game. "Our guys have good chemistry; the team has been playing together for a long time—both for the national team and here—so we are focusing more on our own game, especially since we’re playing at home. We certainly analyzed the opponent, took specific tactical aspects into account, and prepared accordingly," said Orazov.
The coach refrained from predicting the score of the upcoming match, expressing confidence in his team's victory. Responding to a question about the tactical plan for the game, he noted that the final decision would depend on how the match unfolds: "We don't have a policy of constantly keeping possession, but neither do we have a policy of playing exclusively on the counter-attack." The guys have a feel for when to hold back the pace and when, conversely, to go on the attack. Naturally, we’re playing at home, so we need to push forward and attack.
Orazov also reported that Shanazar Tirkishov and Altymurad Annadurdyev have recently returned to training and have already taken part in friendly matches. Their participation in the match against “Goa” will depend on the decision of the club's medical staff.
The match between “Arkadag” and “Goa” will take place on August 12 at “Arkadag” Stadium, kicking off at 20:00 local time; admission is free. The winner will secure a spot in the AFC Champions League Two group stage, while the losing team will continue its international season in the AFC Challenge League group stage.
The online platform Belet will provide a live broadcast of the match in Turkmenistan.
