A scientific-practical conference titled "Protection of the Caspian Sea Ecosystem: Regional Cooperation and Sustainable Development" begins today in Turkmenistan, timed to coincide with Caspian Sea Day.

On this occasion, the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, sent a congratulatory message to the conference participants.

As noted in the message, Caspian Sea Day is celebrated annually in Turkmenistan at a high level on August 12 to mark the entry into force of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.

The Caspian Sea has gained broad international recognition as a sea of peace, friendship, and good-neighborly cooperation. It is an invaluable asset characterized by unique natural features, rich biodiversity, and significant economic and geopolitical importance. "Throughout history, the Caspian Sea has united the peoples living along its shores, creating favorable conditions for the development of trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties among them," the President emphasized.

Global environmental challenges require countries to join forces in environmental protection. Issues such as climate change, the protection of water resources, and the prevention of marine pollution are challenges facing not only individual states but the entire international community. Preserving the unique ecosystems, biodiversity, and rare flora and fauna of the Caspian Sea is among the country's priorities.

In this regard, Turkmenistan actively cooperates with international organizations and the states of the Caspian region.

"The Caspian environmental initiative championed by our country is an important step toward protecting the marine ecosystem, uniting efforts, and preserving this unique natural heritage for future generations," the Head of State noted, extending sincere congratulations to everyone on Caspian Sea Day and wishing them good health, family well-being, and great success in their work.
