National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar discussed the development of the “Lapis-Lazuli” international transport corridor, TDH reported.

As noted, Turkmenistan, located at the crossroads of transcontinental corridors, attaches great importance to the development of fruitful cooperation in the field of sustainable transport. Vivid evidence of this are the country's initiatives to create international transport and transit corridors and logistics centers, participation in the implementation of projects for the North-South and East-West international transport corridors, in particular, in the revival of the Great Silk Road in new historical conditions. In this regard, the importance of the “Lapis Lazuli” international transport corridor was emphasized.

In 2017, a five-party agreement on the creation of the Afghanistan–Turkmenistan–Azerbaijan–Georgia–Türkiye corridor was signed in Ashgabat.

Previously, the Turkmen side put forward proposals to improve the route's efficiency: the creation of a Unified Logistics Center to coordinate cargo flows, the development of infrastructure for cargo dispatch and receipt points, the implementation of a unified pricing policy for transportation, the simplification of customs procedures using the "Single Window" principle, and the preparation of a digital atlas of the transport route. It was noted that the development of the corridor will contribute to strengthening ties between the countries of Central and South Asia, as well as the regions of the Caspian, Black and Mediterranean Seas.
