Cameroon's 92-year-old President Paul Biya left for Europe two months ago and has not returned to his homeland since, the Associated Press reports.

Biya, the world's oldest serving head of state, has led Cameroon since 1982. He took office for his eighth presidential term in November 2025.

According to the agency, Thursday marked two months since the president last visited the country. The president's office had previously stated that the trip to Europe was private and short-term. The government later confirmed that Biya was in Switzerland.

The AP notes that the president's prolonged absence raises questions about his health. According to the publication, Biya regularly spends significant time in Europe, primarily in France and Switzerland, and current affairs are handled in his absence by close members of the ruling party and family members.

Politician Issa Chiroma Bakary stated that there is a widespread belief in Cameroonian society that Biya is not in good health.
