Turkmen weightlifter Shabnam Kerimbayeva won a silver medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in the 53 kg weight category among girls (under 17 years old).

In the combined total of the two events, the athlete lifted 186 kg, second only to Jody Peralta of the Philippines (188 kg). Indian weightlifter Bhargavi Bellana won the bronze medal in this category with 178 kg.

Kerimbayeva also competed in the senior age category – juniors (under 20), where she also took third place with a lift of 186 kg. The winner was Thai athlete Natcha Kevnoy (189 kg), while Jody Peralta (188 kg) took second.

Based on the individual events, the Turkmen weightlifter lifted 83 kg in the snatch and 103 kg in the clean and jerk. These results earned her a small silver medal in the snatch and a small gold medal in the clean and jerk in the Youth category, as well as a small silver medal in the snatch and a small silver medal in the clean and jerk in the Junior category.

The Asian Championships are taking place in Tashkent, bringing together over 300 athletes from 29 countries in the region. The competition will run until August 14. According to the rules of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), athletes may compete in two age categories simultaneously.

The Turkmenistan team is represented at the tournament by 16 athletes – seven boys and nine girls.
