In Astana, the first unmanned passenger aircraft with a person on board took flight in Kazakhstan. This was reported by the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A demonstration flight of the EH216-S electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft took place over a specially permitted area of the capital as part of the “2026 Future Games” international tournament.

The ministry clarified that the aircraft is designed to carry two passengers, reaches speeds of up to 130 km/h, and can travel up to 35 km.

The initial phase in Kazakhstan plans to launch demonstration and tourist routes lasting between 5 and 30 minutes over the country's natural, cultural, and historical landmarks. In the future, unmanned passenger aerial systems could become part of the country's transport infrastructure, along with other modes of mobility.

In addition to passenger transportation, the Ministry is considering the use of unmanned aerial systems for emergency medical care, drug delivery, firefighting, and logistics tasks where efficiency is essential.
