Young specialists from Turkmenistan are participating in an international summer school dedicated to the methodology of data collection for modeling the evolution of glaciation in the inner Tien Shan.

The event is taking place from August 3 to 8 in Issyk-Kul. Participants include specialists in hydrology, meteorology, glaciology, and ecology from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, according to carececo.org.

Glacier melt is already becoming one of the main challenges facing Central Asia. The state of the cryosphere directly impacts the region's water resources, population safety, and economic sustainability. According to World Bank forecasts, glacier coverage could shrink by approximately a third by 2050, increasing the risk of dangerous glacial lakes, mudflows, and floods.

The school's practical classes take place at the facilities of the Tien Shan International Scientific Center—the Chon-Kyzyl-Suu hydrometeorological station, the Kara-Batkak glacier, and the Kara-Bulun lake station on the coast of Lake Issyk-Kul.

The training is conducted by scientists and experts from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belgium, France, and Japan within the framework of the Restoring Sustainable Landscapes in the Kyrgyz Republic (RESILAND Kyrgyzstan) project, part of the World Bank's RESILAND CA+ regional program.
