Representatives of Turkmenportal and the Japanese company Mitsubishi Corporation met in Tokyo to discuss the company's history of cooperation with Turkmenistan and prospects for its further development. The meeting was part of a program inviting foreign media representatives, organized by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the assistance of the Japanese Embassy in Ashgabat.

During the meeting, a representative of the “Global Planning & Coordination” department (EMEA region) of Mitsubishi Corporation spoke about the company's main activities and its long-term cooperation with Turkmenistan.

Mitsubishi Corporation is one of Japan's leading general trading companies. Its history dates back to 1954. Its headquarters are located in the Marunouchi business district of Tokyo. The company's activities are organized into seven business groups, covering areas such as GX (green transformation and energy), mineral resources, social infrastructure and urban development, mobility, food processing, and other sectors. The company operates worldwide.

Mitsubishi Corporation has been cooperating with Turkmenistan for many years, primarily in the energy, industrial, and chemical sectors. Over the years, the company and its affiliates participated in projects to build a urea and ammonia plant in the country, and also opened a representative office in Turkmenistan to develop a long-term partnership.

According to previously published information, in May 2026, within the framework of the White City Ashgabat 2026 International Exhibition and Conference, the “Turkmenhimiya” State Concern signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a group of companies consisting of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., Mitsubishi Corporation Machinery Inc., and the Turkish company Çalık Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. The document provides for the maintenance and repair of the “Garabogazkarbamid” ammonia-urea plant.

In addition, a project to build a new ammonia and urea production complex in the Balkan velayat is being implemented for the “Turkmenhmimya” State Concern by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the Turkish Gap Insaat, in cooperation with Mitsubishi Corporation.

Following the meeting, the parties expressed interest in further strengthening business ties and expanding cooperation between Japan and Turkmenistan.
