On July 24, the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan, as the responsible executor, conducted a comprehensive exercise to prevent and eliminate man-made accidents at oil and gas production platforms and other facilities (structures) for various purposes in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.

The exercise was conducted in accordance with the Work Plan of the State Commission of Turkmenistan for Emergency Situations for 2026.

The main goals of the event were to clarify procedures for responding to natural and man-made emergencies and to ensure coordination between relevant services, according to the website of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan.

Within the framework of simulation exercises in the city of Turkmenbashy, an oil spill was simulated at the “Zhdanov-A” platform of the “Dzhygalbeg” oil and gas field.

To address the negative consequences of the emergency and minimize damage, the Civil Defense leadership gathered at the Turkmenbashy International Seaport Control Center, where they identified specific tasks.

During the decision-making period, employees of the Caspian Environmental Inspectorate conducted reconnaissance and monitoring at the scene of the incident using a special tugboat, and also took samples to test the water quality in the incident area.

Immediately after the management decisions were made, the relevant naval forces with the necessary resources arrived at the scene of the emergency and, together with the Marine Emergency Rescue Service of the International Seaport of Turkmenbashy, began carrying out the task, installing booms to localize and collect the spilled oil.
