Slovenian Slavko Vincic, the head referee for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, has retired. The Football Association of Slovenia announced this.
Vincic was the referee for the World Cup final, in which Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in extra time. Late in the second half, he showed Argentina's Enzo Fernandez a second yellow card, after which the player was sent off. The Slovenian referee has officiated at a total of four matches at the 2026 World Cup.
Vincic, 46, has been a FIFA-certified referee since 2010. In 2022, the Slovenian's team officiated the decisive match of the Europa League, in which German “Eintracht” Frankfurt defeated Scottish “Glasgow Rangers” in a penalty shootout (1-1, 5-4 on penalties). In 2024, Vincic officiated at the Champions League final, in which “Real” Madrid defeated “Borussia” Dortmund (2-0) to win the trophy for the 15th time.
