Turkmenistan is actively preparing to participate in the World Equestrian Championships and the Ahal-Teke Beauty Contest, which will be held from September 4 to 6, 2026, at the Peelbergen Equestrian Center in Kronenberg, Netherlands. The Ashgabat Equestrian Center is completing the final stage of horse and rider training ahead of their European tour, according to the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.

The championship is organized by the State Association "Türkmen atlary" and the European Ahal-Teke Association. A State Organizing Committee was formed by a decree of the President of Turkmenistan on June 1 of this year to coordinate the preparations.

According to the publication, practical training for volunteers was organized at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages and the Aba Annayev International Horse Breeding Academy. The program included training in diplomatic protocol, veterinary science, the rules of the International Equestrian Federation, intensive language courses, as well as logistics and press skills.

The events at Peelbergen include an international scientific conference dedicated to the Ahal-Teke breed and a large-scale exhibition and fair. The pavilion of the State Association "Türkmen atlary" will be dedicated to the country's achievements in the field of breeding and preserving the gene pool of the breed, while the pavilion of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan will present the country's historical and cultural heritage and contemporary national art. A separate exhibition will be devoted to jewelry and decorative and applied arts, including examples of traditional horse harness and national ornaments.

A special area with an arena will also be set up for spectators, where the “Galkynyş” National Equestrian Games Group will perform. As noted by A. Berdiyev, head of the State Association "Türkmen atlary," spectators will see complex elements of trick riding, stunt riding, and classical dressage.

The championship is timed to coincide with the year, which is being held in Turkmenistan under the motto "Independent, Neutral Turkmenistan – the Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses."

In 2023, the art of Ahal-Teke horse breeding and the tradition of horse decoration were inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
