The Turkmenistan tennis team will play against teams from Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, and Kuwait at the Davis Cup zonal tournament in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

According to the online newspaper "Golden Age," the capital of Sri Lanka is hosting the qualifying tournament for Group IV of the Asia-Oceania zone, in which seven teams are competing, divided into two groups of three and four teams. Following the draw, the Turkmenistan team was placed in group “B” along with Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, and Kuwait. Group “A” will feature Qatar, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Sri Lanka.

The teams finishing first and second in each group will compete in the playoffs next year for two spots in group III of the Asia/Oceania Zone. The teams finishing third will meet in a playoff for the right to remain in group IV. The losing team, along with the fourth-place team in group “B”, will move to group V of the Asia/Oceania Zone.

In the tournament's first match, the Turkmen tennis players will face the Kuwaiti team.

Turkmenistan's team is represented by Yuri Rogusskiy, Selim Chagylov, Ali Geldiyev, and Resul Atayev. Team captain is Meylis Orazmuhammedov, head coach is Mirali Gasanov, and fitness trainer is Samir Agabek.

Turkmenistan's tennis players have been competing in the Davis Cup since 2004. Last year, at the group V zonal tournament in Isa Town, Bahrain, the national team confidently took first place in group “C”, defeating Brunei, Bangladesh, and Bahrain 3-0 in a row. They then defeated Guam 3-0 in the playoff match, earning a spot in group IV of the Asia-Oceania Zone.
