Argentina staged a comeback victory over England and advanced to the 2026 World Cup final

The Argentina national football team defeated England in the semi-final of the World Cup—hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico—and advanced to the tournament final.

The match in Atlanta ended 2–1 in favor of the South American team. Anthony Gordon scored for England (55th minute). Enzo Fernández (85) and Lautaro Martínez (90+2) found the net for the winners, while Lionel Messi provided two assists.

Argentina captain Messi took the field at the age of 39 years and 21 days, becoming the oldest outfield player in the history of World Cup semi-finals.

The World Cup final will take place on July 19 in East Rutherford; Argentina's opponent will be the Spanish national team, which defeated France in the semifinals.
