Motion-sensor cameras in a Turkmen nature reserve captured a large herd of wild boars

Animals are being monitored and recorded in the Guryhovdan Sanctuary of the Kopetdag State Nature Reserve using motion-sensor cameras.

In particular, a surveillance camera installed near a spring on the Kishmirlinsky Ridge captured a large herd of wild boars with their grown offspring. They regularly visited the body of water. One could observe the wild boars periodically entering the water to escape the midday heat, bathing, and resting on the shore, according to the website of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.

Wild boars are found in various parts of the nature reserve, as well as in the vicinity of the Chirlyk River. They inhabit primarily wooded areas; spruce and larch forests, along with the reed beds surrounding the Chirlyk River, provide suitable habitats for them.

Cameras installed for scientific observation also captured various birds, goitered gazelles, steppe cats, porcupines, foxes, and wolves coming to the watering hole.

After analyzing camera footage, environmentalists discovered that the water level in the spring drops during the summer heat and noted the need to monitor the spring's water supply.
