The Belgian national football team defeated the USA 4–1 in the round of 1/8 match of the World Cup—hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico—and advanced to the tournament's quarterfinals.

The match took place in Seattle. For the winners, Charles De Ketelaere scored a brace (9th and 33rd minutes), while Hans Vanaken (57th) and Romelu Lukaku (90+3) also found the net. Malik Tillman scored for the American side (31st).

Striker Folarin Balogun started for the US national team; he had received a red card in the Round of 1/16 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina and was supposed to miss the game against Belgium.On Sunday, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee suspended Balogun's red card, imposing a one-year probationary period. Later, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he had contacted FIFA following the player's sending-off.

All three host nations have been eliminated from the World Cup at the Round of 1/8 stage; the Canadian and Mexican teams had previously exited the tournament.

In the quarter-final, scheduled for July 10, the Belgians will play against the reigning European champions, Spain. The World Cup concludes on July 19.
