The best craftswomen specializing in felt-making have been identified in western Turkmenistan

A national contest titled "Gülüň owadan!" ("Beautiful Is Your Pattern!") is currently being held across Turkmenistan for craftswomen who make felt carpets (koshm).

The regional stage of the contest has already taken place in Balkan velayat, where the best craftswomen were selected, reports "Turkmenistan: Golden Age."

Under the competition rules, participants vied to craft felt items of specified dimensions within a set timeframe. Additionally, the creative contest featured interesting facts, legends, folk beliefs, and poems celebrating the beautiful patterns of koshm—the felt rugs that adorn Turkmen homes.

At the conclusion of the competition, the team of craftswomen from the city of Balkanabat won the Grand Prix and earned the right to participate in the national stage of the contest.

The team from Bereket etrap took first place, the Esenguly etrap team took second, and the Gyzylarbat etrap team took third.

Upon completion of the competition, the organizers ceremoniously presented valuable gifts to the winners and prize-winners.

The contest was organized jointly by the Central Council of the Women's Union of Turkmenistan, the National Trade Union Center of Turkmenistan, and the Secretariat of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO.
