The Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan signed a cooperation program for 2027–2028

Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, held talks with the head of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy agency, Yermek Kosherbayev, who had arrived in Ashgabat for an official visit. Following the meeting, the parties signed a cooperation program between the two countries' foreign ministries for 2027–2028.

As noted in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan is on an upward trajectory, driven by the trusting dialogue and political will of the heads of state. The ministers discussed the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level.

The parties agreed to maintain regular contact between their foreign policy agencies, including through the format of bilateral political consultations, and reaffirmed their readiness to mutually support initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan at the UN and other international forums. Particular attention was paid to preparations for major international events scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan this year.

In the sphere of trade and economic cooperation, the ministers highlighted the need to step up ties in the transport and logistics, energy, and industrial sectors. In their view, the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific-Technical, and Cultural Cooperation plays a coordinating role in diversifying trade and increasing investment.

Regarding cultural and humanitarian cooperation, the parties noted the importance of deepening ties in science, education, and culture, and agreed to hold joint cross-cultural events.

In addition, during the visit, the original copy of the Treaty on Friendship, Good-Neighborliness and Cooperation for the Development of Central Asia in the XXI Century—signed by the President of Turkmenistan—was handed over to the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan.

Following the talks, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding the interstate dialogue across all areas.
