Heat in France "stretched" the Eiffel Tower by 10 centimeters

The Eiffel Tower in Paris has temporarily grown by approximately 10 centimeters amid the intense heatwave gripping the country, media report.

As experts explain, the tower's metal structure expands when heated—by approximately 2 centimeters for every 10-degree rise in temperature. Once the temperature drops, the structure's dimensions will return to their original state.

In recent days, air temperatures in several regions of France have exceeded the +40°C mark. Consequently, the highest level of weather alert has been issued for 72 of the country's 96 departments.
