The premiere of the children's inclusive play "Emerald City" took place in Ashgabat

The play "Emerald City," performed by the Children's Inclusive Theatre Group, premiered at the A.S. Pushkin State Russian Drama Theatre in Ashgabat, according to "Turkmenistan: Golden Age."

In 1939, writer and translator Alexander Volkov took the American writer Lyman Frank Baum's fairy tale "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" as a basis and wrote his own story, "The Wizard of the Emerald City."

Before staging this play, group leader and director Tatyana Ovezmuradova invited the young actors to familiarize themselves with these two works and choose one of them to perform.

"I was very happy that the children chose the play 'The Wizard of the Emerald City,'" says Tatyana Gennadyevna, "because the fairy tale's heroes asked Goodwin not for material goods, but for intelligence, heart, and courage." In the fairy tale, there are two good and two evil sorceresses. It's just like in life, which has not only positive moments but also negative ones. Learning not to be afraid of difficulties but to solve problems yourself—that's what the story of Ellie and her friends teaches.

The performance featured the entire inclusive group—35 children. The premiere was warmly received by the audience.

The success of the performance was contributed to by co-director Ayna Jumayeva, choreographer Tatyana Udovichenko, and musical designer Sona Ovezmuradova.

The play, with a different cast, will take place on the stage of the Pushkin Theatre on June 29, the source notes.
