Turkmenistan and Slovakia held the first meeting of the commission on economic cooperation

The first meeting of the Turkmen-Slovak Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation took place in Ashgabat. Representatives from Turkmenistan's ministries and agencies, as well as a Slovak delegation led by Deputy Minister of Economy Vladimír Šimonyak, participated, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.

The commission was established by decree of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, signed on June 12 at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1993. In August 2025, at the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in the “Awaza” tourist zone, the parties signed an intergovernmental agreement on economic cooperation.

At the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in trade and economics, fuel and energy, transport, construction, and agriculture, as well as in information technology, healthcare, science, education, culture, and tourism. Particular attention was paid to promoting Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO, developing student exchanges, digital medicine, and telemedicine.

Following the meeting, the minutes of the first meeting of the commission were signed.
