On June 13–14, in Ashgabat, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, together with the National Taekwondo Center of Turkmenistan, held a taekwondo competition for the Ambassador's Cup of the Republic of Korea.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Turkmenistan Lee Wonjae expressed support for the participants, noting that this competition will serve as an important opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen friendship between the Republic of Korea and Turkmenistan through traditional Korean martial arts.

The competition was attended by 125 athletes who demonstrated their skills and mastery, sharing the spirit of unity and the nobility of sport.

This is not the first time that such tournaments, the Ambassador's Cup of the Republic of Korea, have been held in Turkmenistan and have become a traditional element of cultural and sporting cooperation between the two countries. However, for the new head of the Korean diplomatic mission in Ashgabat, Lee Won-jae, this event was his first such experience since his arrival in the country.

Ambassador Lee Wonjae arrived in Turkmenistan on March 31 of this year, and on April 15, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov accepted his credentials. The diplomat repeatedly emphasized his intention to make active efforts to further strengthen friendly and partnership relations between the Republic of Korea and Turkmenistan, as well as to expand cooperation in various fields, including cultural, humanitarian, and sports.
