Türkiye intends to increase trade turnover with Turkmenistan to 5 billion USD – Yilmaz

Türkiye expects to increase bilateral trade with Turkmenistan to 5 billion USD. This was announced by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz on the sidelines of the international trade fair "Turkmenextile Expo 2026."

According to him, by the end of 2025, mutual trade between the two countries will reach 2,2 billion USD, but this figure does not fully reflect the existing potential. The Turkish politician described the "Turkmenextile Expo – 2026" exhibition as an effective platform for bringing together business communities, promoting national products, and concluding new contracts.

"Our relations are strategic. We set ourselves ambitious goals that will shape the system of trade and economic ties throughout the region. Turkmenistan is a special country for us, which we consider our homeland," the online newspaper "Golden Age" quotes Tsylmaz as saying.

The Vice President identified the diversification of transport, logistics, and energy routes as one of the key areas of cooperation. In particular, the parties have high hopes for the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, which is designed to facilitate trade growth and improve logistics between Asia and Europe.

In the energy sector, Yılmaz identified bringing Turkmen energy resources to international markets as a strategic priority. Projects for the supply of Turkmen natural gas to the Turkish market and its transit through Türkiye to Europe are on the agenda. The Turkish side expressed confidence that cooperation in the oil and gas sector will create a multiplier effect for the economies of both countries.

Yılmaz also reported that the total volume of Turkish investments and construction contracts in Turkmenistan has reached 56 billion USD. He particularly noted the implementation of large-scale infrastructure and urban development projects, including the construction of the Arkadag smart city, which has become a symbol of the country's technological modernization.

The international exhibition and fair "Turkmenextile Expo – 2026" is taking place in Ashgabat from June 4 to 6.

A meeting of the Turkmen-Turkish intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation is also taking place in Ashgabat from June 3 to 4.
