Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has officially announced the release of the new generation Pajero SUV. The model's debut is scheduled for this autumn.
The company confirmed that the fifth-generation Pajero will adopt the body-on-frame design of the current Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck (known as the L200 in some markets). The manufacturer also specified that the suspension will be retuned specifically for the passenger SUV. The new Pajero is being billed as the brand's flagship model, positioned above the Pajero Sport, which is also built on the Triton platform.

The silhouette of the new SUV was first spotted earlier this year in a video promoting Mitsubishi's participation in rally racing. Along with the announcement, the company released a single teaser, showing vertical headlight units connected by a wide, illuminated strip.
The Pajero debuted in 1982. The fourth-generation model was produced from 2006 to 2021 and sold in several countries under the names Montero and Shogun.
The technical base of the Triton pickup includes several power units: a 2.4-liter twin-turbo diesel engine with a capacity of 204 hp, less powerful turbodiesel versions (150 and 184 hp), as well as a 2.4-liter gasoline engine (128 hp) with a manual or automatic transmission.Top-of-the-line trims feature a Super Select 4WD-II all-wheel drive system with an asymmetrical limited-slip differential. A hybrid powertrain is also possible for the new Pajero.
Further details about the model are expected before the official presentation.
