The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda to be out of control, Reuters reports.
According to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the virus's spread is outpacing the country's ability to contain the epidemic. The estimated death toll has now reached 220.
The situation is further complicated by a number of factors: there is no approved vaccine against this strain of Ebola, and security concerns persist in affected areas, making it difficult for medical personnel to work.
