At the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution "On the role and importance of the policy of neutrality in maintaining and strengthening international peace, security and sustainable development."
In an interview with the newspaper "Turkmenistan," Aksoltan Atayeva, Head of the Department of Peace and Neutrality at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Hero of Turkmenistan, called the adoption of this document one of the key events of the anniversary year. According to her, in the context of growing geopolitical tensions and crises, the promotion of dialogue, preventive diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of disputes has acquired "not just important, but historic significance."
The resolution is based on previously adopted UN General Assembly documents on Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and confirms that a neutral policy, consistent with the UN Charter and international law, can strengthen peace, security, and promote sustainable development.
Atayeva also noted the special role of the Group of Friends of Neutrality—a platform for exchanging experiences in the practical application of the principles of neutrality, established in 2020. As the chair of this group, Turkmenistan reaffirms its commitment to multilateral dialogue and cooperation in the field of peace and security.
The adopted document became the 32nd UN General Assembly resolution proposed by Turkmenistan and, according to Atayeva, will make a significant contribution to the further strengthening of the culture of peace and preventive diplomacy at the international level.
