Turkmenistan's partnership with the European Union is becoming increasingly practical in nature and now spans a wide range of areas, Deputy Foreign Minister Akhmad Kurbanov said at a ceremony in Ashgabat marking Europe Day.
"Today, the partnership between Turkmenistan and the European Union is taking on an increasingly practical character and encompasses a broad spectrum of fields," Kurbanov stated at the event.
The diplomat noted that developing cooperation with the EU remains one of the key priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign policy strategy. He said bilateral relations are built on the principles of mutual understanding, respect and trust, and are aimed at promoting international peace and sustainable development.
Kurbanov stressed that over more than three decades, ties between Turkmenistan and the European Union have expanded significantly and become multifaceted. Today, cooperation covers trade and economic relations, security, energy, transport, ecology, digitalisation, education, science and culture.
The Deputy Minister also highlighted the high level of political dialogue between the two sides. He recalled Turkmenistan's President's participation in the first Central Asia – European Union Summit, held on April 4, 2025 in Samarkand, as well as bilateral meetings between the head of state and the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission.
Kurbanov further noted that in recent years, Team Europe initiatives have gained momentum across areas including digital connectivity, energy, water resources, climate change and green development.
"We are convinced that the positive experience accumulated over the years will continue to serve the development of mutually beneficial relations, the continuation of trust-based dialogue, and the advancement of our shared approaches in the interests of peace, sustainable development and prosperity," he concluded.
