A Turkmen weightlifter won bronze at the Junior World Championships in Egypt

Turkmen athlete Didarbek Jumabayev won a bronze medal in the combined event and silver in the clean and jerk at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Ismailia, Egypt.

Jumabayev competed in the 79 kg weight class. He recorded a snatch lift of 148 kg and a clean and jerk lift of 187 kg, for a total of 335 kg. Egyptian Abdulrahman Hamouda won the category (341 kg), while Armenian Narek Mkrtchyan took silver (336 kg).

The World Junior Championships are taking place from May 2 to 8 in Ismailia. Turkmenistan is represented by nine athletes – five girls and four boys.

Earlier, in the 53 kg category, Ogulshat Amanova, with a combined total of 187 kg, missed out on the medalists, losing by 1 kg to bronze medalist Maria Stratudaki of Greece (188 kg). Her compatriot Shabnam Kerimbaeva, in the same weight category, finished eighth out of 15 competitors, lifting 181 kg. Medine Amanova, in the 63 kg category, failed to register a single attempt and retired early.
