On May 4, following a Cabinet meeting, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced record foreign trade figures for the country. He stated that the rolling 12-month volume of Turkish exports reached 275,8 billion USD for the first time in the country's history, with growth recorded across all sectors and in trade with 166 countries and regions.
Erdoğan also touched on relations with the European Union. He assessed that the EU cannot claim its role as a global player without Türkiye as a full member. The president emphasized that Europe needs Türkiye more than Türkiye needs Europe, and called on European partners to build relations "on an equal footing, without political and historical prejudices."
Furthermore, the head of state announced expanded support measures for young families. According to the new decision, young people who took advantage of a preferential loan from the Family and Youth Fund will have 12 payments forgiven during the repayment period upon the birth of their first child, and upon the birth of their second child, the entire remaining debt will be converted into a grant.
