A new banana variety with an unusually light and shiny peel has been discovered in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. The country's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has registered it in the national registry under the name "Clarinia," reports tvbrics.com, citing the official Brazilian government website.
This new variety is the result of a natural mutation of the widespread Cavendish group. Its key difference from traditional bananas is its reduced chlorophyll content: approximately 43% less than standard varieties. This explains the unusual whitish tint of the peel.
According to testing, the Clarinia variety's yield is comparable to that of regular banana trees. At the same time, the new variety demonstrates a significant aesthetic advantage: unlike traditional bananas, which quickly darken on shelves in winter, it retains its marketable appearance longer.
