Turkmenistan has all the prerequisites to become a prominent and competitive tourist destination, said Cordula Wohlmuth, Regional Director for Europe at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), speaking at the Turkmentravel 2026 conference.
"Central Asia is today becoming one of the most promising tourism regions in the world. Its shared heritage, strategic location, and growing connectivity create unique opportunities for developing a strong regional tourism destination. Furthermore, the region is stable and secure. Turkmenistan plays a crucial role in this process," she noted.
According to Wohlmuth, Turkmenistan's cooperation with the UNWTO focuses on key priorities: sustainability, product diversification, route development, digitalization, innovation, and investment attraction. The organization is committed to continuing to support the country, unlocking its potential, creating opportunities for its population, and fostering a more sustainable and inclusive global tourism sector.
The international exhibition and conference Turkmentravel 2026 is taking place in Ashgabat from April 14 to 16. The event brings together local and international companies showcasing tourism potential, innovative travel solutions, and new opportunities for international cooperation.
