Turkmenistan advocates for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes

Turkmenistan consistently adheres to the principle of the peaceful use of nuclear energy. This was stated by National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during a meeting with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi in Vienna during his visit to the Republic of Austria, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan, based on its status of permanent neutrality, pursues a foreign policy aimed at strengthening global and regional security. Grossi, in turn, praised Ashgabat's commitment to nuclear safety principles and supported the country's international initiatives in the areas of energy and environmental security.

The meeting noted that Turkmenistan's cooperation with the IAEA has reached a qualitatively new level in recent years. Specifically, with the Agency's support, the country is introducing modern diagnostic and treatment methods and improving its system for combating dangerous diseases.

The parties also discussed the preparation of a new Country Programming Framework for 2026–2030, which will define technical cooperation priorities, including the development of nuclear medicine and enhancing safety in various economic sectors.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed organizing a high-level regional forum in Ashgabat to coincide with the significant dates of the signing of the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty and Turkmenistan's accession to the IAEA.
