The Turkmenistan youth football team (U-23), led by head coach Ahmed Agamuradov, won a major victory over the Chinese Taipei team with a score of 5:1 in the first round of the qualifying tournament for the 2026 Asian Cup. The Group A match was held in the capital of Jordan.
Dayanch Meredov opened the scoring in the 19th minute. In the 32nd minute, Sohbet Durdyev doubled the advantage of the Turkmen team.
The Chinese Taipei team reduced the gap in the 40th minute through Wei Chi-Chuan, but three minutes later, Meredov restored Turkmenistan's two-goal advantage, scoring a double before the break.
At the beginning of the second half, in the 48th minute, Meredov scored the third goal into the opponent's goal. The final score was set in the 92nd minute by Abdurahman Annamuradov.
On September 6, the youth team of Turkmenistan will play a match against the team of Bhutan in the second round. On the same day, Chinese Taipei will meet with Jordan.
The 2026 AFC Youth Cup qualification will feature 44 teams divided into 11 qualifying groups. The group winners and the four best runners-up will qualify for the finals.
The final stage of the Asian Cup U-23 will be held from January 7 to 25, 2026 in Saudi Arabia.
