The Secretary-General of the United Nations officially announced the election of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov as the Chairman of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Countries, the online newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" reports. The opening ceremony took place at the Avaza Sports Complex, which was chosen as the venue for the global forum.
In his speech, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the strategic importance of the conference for the implementation of key UN programs, including the Sustainable Development Agenda and the Pact for the Future. The head of state noted the need for a comprehensive approach to solving humanitarian, economic, social and environmental problems of landlocked countries.
The speech paid special attention to the social policy of Turkmenistan, aimed at protecting and supporting citizens, developing their potential and ensuring a high level of medical care. A new international initiative from Turkmenistan was presented within the framework of the conference.
The President also reminded the international initiatives previously put forward by the country and confirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to continue active assistance in addressing global challenges and strengthening international cooperation.
The work of the global forum continues with the participation of representatives of landlocked countries and international organizations.
