On June 15, a passenger helicopter crashed in the Indian state of Uttarakhand while en route to the Hindu temple of Kedarnath. According to the News18 TV channel, there were seven people on board – all of them died, including a two-year-old child and the pilot.
The crash occurred near the village of Gaurikund. As reported by the ANI agency, citing local aviation services, the tragedy could have been caused by adverse weather conditions. The helicopter was flying to a popular pilgrimage site in conditions of heavy fog and precipitation.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Uttarakhand authorities have expressed condolences to the families of the victims and announced that they are launching a review of safety standards for tourist and religious air travel.
