On June 3, World Bicycle Day was widely celebrated in Turkmenistan. A mass bike ride was organized in Ashgabat on the occasion of the international holiday, in which President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan writes.
The bike ride started from the Health Path. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Mejlis, members of the government, heads of ministries and departments, the city administration, public organizations and the media, as well as rectors of universities. The heads and representatives of diplomatic missions of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan joined the bike ride.
Participants included students from the Döwletliler köşgi Palace, students from the Young Olympians Training School and comprehensive schools, members of the national cycling team, students and members of the public.
The President gave the start to the mass bike ride, after which the column of participants began moving along the route passing through the capital's Archabil and Bitarap Turkmenistan avenues. The bike ride participants followed the wide avenues of the capital, enjoying the fresh morning air and picturesque views of the Kopetdag foothills.
During the event, the head of state instructed Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers T. Atahalliyev to monitor the implementation of the National Forest Program to improve the environmental situation in the country. Deputy Prime Minister B. Annamammedov reported to the President on measures to develop and improve the capital.
The head of Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of successfully implementing the tasks outlined in the Ashgabat Development Concept and ordered that the modernization of the city’s infrastructure and the creation of comfortable conditions for citizens be kept under constant control.
The bike ride ended at the Ruhyyet Palace, where the participants noted the importance of the UN General Assembly resolution adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan to declare June 3 as World Bicycle Day.
