A 68-year-old Zurich resident has been prosecuted after regularly feeding her neighbors' cat, daily.afisha.ru reports, citing Swissinfo.
For ten months, the pensioner not only fed her neighbor's cat Leo, who lived in the same building, but also let him into her apartment. Despite a written request from the animal's legal owner to stop feeding the pet, the woman continued to do so.
The situation worsened when the defendant modified the cat flap so that Leo could freely visit her apartment. As a result, the cat stopped returning to his real owner.
The Zurich prosecutor's office is demanding a fine of 3 600 Swiss francs (about $4 300) and an additional 800 francs. Disagreeing with the charges, the woman decided to appeal the decision, as a result of which the case was sent to court.
According to Swiss law, systematically feeding someone else's pet in your home can be classified as illegal appropriation of someone else's property, although occasional feeding of a neighbor's cat is considered acceptable.
