The catastrophic consequences of the powerful earthquake in Myanmar continue to worsen. According to the latest data, the death toll has reached 2 719 people, as reported by China Central Television, citing a statement by Myanmar Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing.

More than 4 521 people were injured to varying degrees of severity, and another 400 citizens are considered missing. The prime minister expressed fears that the total number of victims could exceed 3,000 people.

An earthquake measuring 7.7 struck on March 28, with its epicenter west of Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city. The tremors were also felt in neighboring countries. In Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, 17 people were killed, more than 30 were injured, and 83 are missing after a high-rise building under construction collapsed.

According to American geologists, this earthquake was the most powerful in the region in the last century. The US Geological Survey experts suggest that the final death toll could reach 10 000 people.
