The National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO held a final meeting in Ashgabat, where the results of joint work for 2024 were reviewed and priority areas of cooperation for 2025 were identified. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Opening the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov emphasized the priority of partnership with UNESCO for the country’s leadership. Particular attention last year was paid to the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the poet Magtymguly Fragi, included in the List of significant dates of UNESCO for 2024-2025. As part of this event, the 10th Meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO of the TURKSOY Member States was held in Ashgabat in May 2024.
During 2024, numerous consultations were held with UNESCO representatives both online and offline. The meetings discussed prospects for cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture and ecology. Following the talks, important documents were adopted that determine further cooperation.
The meeting also discussed plans to include the national values of Turkmenistan in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and issues of strengthening the country’s position in the structural divisions of UNESCO. Special attention was paid to preparations for holding joint events within the framework of the “International Year of Peace and Trust”, which has been declared to be 2025.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO, as well as heads and representatives of relevant ministries and departments of the country.
