An incident involving a unique work of art from the Renaissance occurred in a museum in the city of Brescia. A museum visitor accidentally tripped and, trying to keep her balance, touched an ancient canvas by Moretto, created in 1522-1524, RIA NOVOSTI reports.
The damaged work is a rare double-sided banner used in liturgical processions. On one side of the canvas are unknown saints, on the other – the Virgin Mary with representatives of the religious movement of the Disciplinati.
The director of the Brescia Museum Foundation Stefano Karadjov commented on the incident, noting that the visitor was not hurt. “This can happen, especially given the high popularity of the current exhibition,” he emphasized. The incident occurred at an exhibition dedicated to the work of local Renaissance artists.
