In the airspace over the Caribbean Sea near the Dominican Republic, six passenger airliners had to urgently adjust their flight paths due to falling fragments of the Starship spacecraft. "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" reports this.
The aircraft included five long-haul aircraft of the Airbus and Boeing 767 models. The pilots had to perform several circular maneuvers while waiting for the space debris to fall into the ocean.
The incident affected flights on various routes: from Fort Lauderdale, Cincinnati and Chicago to San Juan, from Madrid to Santa Domingo and San Juan, and from Montreal to Punta Cana.
The situation arose after SpaceX's Starship crashed during its seventh test flight shortly after launch on the night of January 17. According to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the accident was caused by a fuel or oxygen leak.
