Sociologists predict the emergence of a new demographic generation, called “beta”, which will begin to form in 2025. According to experts, in a decade, representatives of this group will make up one sixth of the world’s population. The famous sociologist and futurologist Mark McCrindle, the author of the concept of “generation alpha”, suggests that these children will face serious social challenges of our time, writes “MIR 24”.
The time frame of the beta generation is defined as the period from 2025 to 2039, replacing the previous alpha generation (2010-2024). Previously known were generation Z (1996-2010) and millennials or generation Y (1981-1996).
McCrindle predicts that the beta generation will live in a world where stability will become a necessity due to climate change, large-scale migrations and rapid urbanization. Their daily lives will be closely connected to artificial intelligence, which will be integrated into all areas of life – from education to medicine and leisure.
Parents of the beta generation, mainly representatives of Generation Z, will likely be more cautious about their children’s use of social media than millennials. According to NBC News, they are more aware of both the benefits and risks of early exposure to digital technologies.
Generational expert Jason Dorsey notes that for beta children, the coronavirus pandemic will be just a historical fact, known from textbooks and family memories. By the time they come of age, Generation X will be in power, and the problem of climate change will remain one of the main global challenges.
