Former US President Jimmy Carter has died at the age of 100. The Washington Post reports that he passed away peacefully on December 29 at his home in Plains, Georgia, as announced by his son. The Carter Center confirmed the death, “MIR 24” reports.

After several hospitalizations, the former president decided to spend his last days with his family under the care of a hospice service in February 2023. Carter's last public appearance took place in November 2023 at a farewell ceremony for his wife of 77 years, Rosalynn, who died at the age of 96. Carter is survived by four children, as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The politician’s life was marked not only by achievements but also by overcoming serious challenges. At 90, he successfully overcame cancer, discovered after surgery to remove a liver tumor. In the years that followed, he faced a number of health problems, including dehydration in 2017.

Carter, who led the country from 1977 to 1981, was recognized as the longest-serving president in US history in March 2019. In 2002, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his contributions to democracy, human rights, and peacekeeping.
