British sleep researcher Sophie Bostock, in collaboration with Bensons for Beds, has created a visualisation of what Generation Z might look like in 25 years if they don’t get enough sleep, daily.afisha.ru reports, citing the Daily Mail.
The scientists have created a fictional character named Hannah, a 45-year-old woman who represents the potential consequences of chronic sleep deprivation. The image shows Hannah suffering from a host of health issues, including constant back pain, hair loss and swollen legs.
According to legend, Hannah only slept six hours a night, not allowing her body to fully rest. Her lifestyle left her with sagging skin, prominent bags under her eyes and weakened muscle tone. Constant smartphone use and irregular sleep patterns contributed to a weakened immune system and increased susceptibility to infections.
Dr Bostock warns that today’s twenty-somethings could face similar problems if they don’t prioritise getting seven to nine hours of sleep each night. The visualization is based on 19 sleep-related studies, highlighting the critical importance of maintaining consistent circadian rhythms.
The researcher emphasized that lack of sleep can cause a variety of health problems, including: cardiovascular disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, memory impairment, premature aging.
