The capital of Azerbaijan is taking a new step towards clean air. From December 1, modern electric buses equipped with the latest technology will begin plying the streets of Baku, "MIR 24" reports.
In the cabins, passengers will find USB chargers, touch buttons, and special ramps are provided for people with disabilities.
Drivers have been trained to operate the new vehicles, which are equipped with all-round cameras to improve traffic safety. To service electric buses, a new depot for 210 vehicles with charging stations was built.
“The battery capacity is filled in three and a half hours. On one charge, electric buses can travel 306 km,” said Yashar Babayev, chief power engineer of the ecobuspark.
The results of recent air quality tests in Baku showed that pollution levels are significantly higher than normal. In this regard, a decision was made on a large-scale modernization of public transport and the replacement of traditional buses with electric ones. It is expected that such a step will significantly improve the environmental situation in the city.
